From home theaters to conference rooms, Ronkonkoma-based Aztec Industries, Inc. is shaping the atmosphere of a variety of spaces across the tristate area.

The manufacturer sells in a niche market: acoustical wall and ceiling panels and other custom fabric-wrapped products, including dividers, bulletin boards, tack panels, and seat cushions. Aztec’s work appears in many well-known businesses’ offices, university and hospital buildings, churches, gyms, banks, municipal buildings, and more. Hardie Wood Grain Fiber Cement Board

“Anything that’s fabric-facing, we can make,” Philip DelGiudice, Aztec’s owner and president, says. “We do a lot of work for home theater companies, furniture dealers, and companies buying complete office systems.”

With a background in graphics printing and design, DelGiudice founded the private-label manufacturing company in 1985 in Copiague. Aztec now occupies a 4,500-square-foot facility in Ronkonkoma and has about seven employees.

The manufacturer primarily supplies products for distributing companies, which then brand and sell the items to their own customers. Aztec also occasionally works directly with a client or designer to bring their vision for a space to life – for example, acoustic paneling for Stony Brook University and high-end home theaters in Hamptons houses.

“Especially in the home theaters, we’ve done projects that push the envelope on the design,” DelGiudice says. “Projects like that are fun because you need to solve an acoustic problem but you can create something that’s visually appealing that still does the job.”

Some of the company’s design techniques include stacking panels for depth and hanging large panels from the ceiling of an atrium to help soundproof it, as they did for a senior complex in Nesconset.

“The design part is what keeps it really interesting, and we have the ability to accommodate different environments,” DelGiudice says. “The fun part is the custom work we’re able to do.”

Aztec has supplied products that have been sold and installed for Amazon’s Audible, Banana Republic, GAP, MTV, NBC, Pfizer, Gold’s Gym, WeightWatchers, and more. Local buyers have included Del Vino Vineyards, Jefferson’s Ferry Life Plan Community, and the Suffolk County Health Department.
